The semi-naked cake is one of the many cake designs that have been created. A semi-naked cake is a cake that has frosting between each layer of cake. It then has a very light coat of frosting on the outside of the entire cake. This thin coat of frosting is what makes a semi-naked cake different than a naked cake. A naked cake is almost the same but doesn't have any frosting on the outside of the cake.
Anyone who has attempted to make a semi-naked cake knows that you can definitely run into some problems. One main problem is when scrapping off the frosting to give it the naked look. When you go to scrap off the frosting you can have the problem of cake crumbs getting into the remaining frosting resulting in an unclean look. There are a few tricks that can help you avoid this problem. One trick is to make sure your cake is completely cool before you start putting it together. There are some cakes when you can avoid the cake being completely cool, but this is not one of those cakes. The next trick is to make sure your buttercream is very soft! A soft buttercream helps make it easier to spread and much easier to take off without getting cake crumbs into the remaining frosting. The final tip is to heat up your bench scrapper before scraping off the frosting. The heat helps take the frosting off easier, so you don't have to press down as hard and potentially ruin the cake.
I hope you give this cake a try and use some of my tips and tricks! Let me know how everything goes and if you have any tips and tricks for me please comment them!!
